促黃體生成素（LH）是由垂體前葉的促性腺激素細胞合成的一種糖蛋白，可促進膽固醇在性腺細胞內轉化為性激素。對于女性，促黃體生成素會刺激卵巢釋放卵子，它的周期性的極速上升導致每月的排卵的發生；對于男性，促黃體生成素刺激睪丸間質細胞合成睪丸素。顆粒細胞的黃體化與細胞增大和黃體酮生成增加有關，顆粒細胞與卵巢中發育的配子（卵子）密切相關。
